I-T teams wind up four-day longs raid on Sunday

26 locations of different districts were raided 

Disclosure may be within a day or two

Income Tax sleuths raided more than 26 places in half a dozen cities of Chhattisgarh and the operation lasted for four days. As the operation was winded up on Sunday afternoon, the Income Tax officials took documents related to disproportionate assets with them.

According to Income Tax Department sources, more than 12 bank lockers were seized after getting information about large-scale ‘benami’ properties and transactions during the raid.

Sources revealed that about Rs 12 crore cash and jewellery worth Rs Rs 6-7 crore have been seized during raids at a residential complex in Raipur.

It was learnt that the Income Tax Department may disclose the information about the raid in a day or two after thorough examination of documents seized by the teams. Income Tax Department had recorded the statement of businessman Suryakant Tiwari and one of his associates.

According to sources, both had already been summoned for questioning under Section 131 of the Income Tax Act, 1961. On July 1, both of them were taken from Raipur Airport to the Income Tax Office located at Civil Lines and their statements were recorded. Questioned regarding assets and transactions was asked by the I-T officials.

To be recalled, Income Tax Department teams started concurrent raids in Raipur, Bhilai, Raigarh, Korba, Mahasamund and Dhamtari in the early hours on June 30 including the house of Suryakant Tiwari in Korba, his colleague Nikhil Chandrakar, contractor Ajay Naidu, transporter Joginder Singh and some others.
