IPS Officer Dr Santosh Singh’s Book on UN Peacebuilding Efforts Published by Delhi’s Renowned Manak Publications

Raipur: A book authored by IPS officer Dr Santosh Singh, currently posted as DIG, CCTNS/SCRB at the Chhattisgarh Police Headquarters, has been published by Manak Publications, one of Delhi’s most reputed publishing houses. The book is based on Dr Singh’s research on the United Nations’ peacebuilding initiatives aimed at strengthening global peace in conflict-affected regions.

Dr Singh presented copies of his book to Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Speaker of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Dr Raman Singh, and Director General of Police Arun Dev Gautam.

The book explores the evolution of UN peace efforts in the post-Cold War era, emphasizing the need to move beyond traditional peacekeeping and peacemaking operations toward comprehensive peacebuilding initiatives. It critically examines the functioning of the UN Peacebuilding Commission and its missions in war-torn and conflict-affected nations, highlighting their role in ensuring sustainable peace.

Offering both theoretical insights and practical evaluations, Dr Singh’s work serves as a valuable resource for foreign policy makers, scholars, and practitioners of international relations. It also provides perspectives relevant to achieving lasting peace in India’s conflict-prone regions, making it especially pertinent to policymakers and peace researchers.

The book underscores India’s strong and consistent commitment to global peace and security under the UN framework. India ranks among the top three contributors to UN peacekeeping forces, having participated in 49 missions and contributed nearly 200,000 peacekeepers since 1950. Senior Indian police and military officers have played significant roles in several UN missions.

Dr Singh holds a PhD from Hemchand Yadav University, Durg, an MPhil in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, and a Master’s degree in Political Science from Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi. His MPhil dissertation focused on the participation of developing countries in the UN Security Council, and several of his research papers have been published in reputed national and international journals.
