IPS Officer Accused of Sexual Harassment by Sub-Inspector’s Wife in Chhattisgarh

Raipur: The wife of a Sub-Inspector (SI) in the Chhattisgarh Police Department has accused a senior IPS officer of sexual harassment and exploitation. The woman lodged a complaint with the Director General of Police (DGP) at the Police Headquarters (PHQ) in Naya Raipur.
The police administration has handed over the investigation to Inspector General (IG) Anand Chhabra.
The complainant alleged that the IPS officer subjected her to physical and mental exploitation for the past seven years.
In his defense, the IPS officer, who holds the rank of IG, submitted a written complaint to the DGP claiming the woman was attempting to defame and blackmail him. He further stated that she had previously imposed conditions, including threatening him with poison and maintaining continuous surveillance via video calls.
The woman formally registered her complaint on October 15 at the Police Headquarters. She stated that she first met the IPS officer in 2017, when he was posted as Superintendent of Police (SP) in Korba. Their initial contact started on social media and progressed over time.
She claimed that she used to teach him yoga via video call during his posting in Dantewada. The woman further alleged that the IPS officer began harassing her after he was transferred and promoted to IG in Rajnandgaon and later in Surguja. The alleged harassment intensified during his tenure as IG, Bilaspur.
The complaint alleges that the IPS officer would call her to his bungalow when his wife was absent and threaten her with a transfer if she refused. Even after his transfer to the Chandkhuri Police Training Academy, he allegedly pressured her to contact him from 5 am to 10 pm via video call. The woman also claimed to possess several objectionable digital pieces of evidence.
The IPS officer has refuted the allegations, claiming the complainant was attempting blackmail. He stated he had previously informed senior officers about her attempts at extortion and defamation, and alleged that she lodged the complaint after learning he had approached his seniors.
Police Headquarters officials have tasked IG Anand Chhabra with probing the complaint. Reports suggest the investigating officer will first question the woman, record her statement, and collect digital evidence, after which the IPS officer’s statement will be recorded.
Officials have remained silent regarding the timeframe for the investigation report.
The complainant has also alleged that some departmental officials are pressuring her to compromise after she filed the complaint. Police Headquarters officials have not issued any official statement and remain silent after instructing the internal investigation.
