Indian Wild Wolves an endangered species sighted in Kanger Valley National Park

Raipur: The endangered species of ‘Indian Wild Wolves’ were sighted and photographed in the Kanger Valley National Park (KVNP). The pictures and videos of Indian Wild Wolves have been recorded in trap cameras, in which wolves were seen moving in a pack of three at different places. The trap cameras have been installed at different places in KVNP to monitor and record the movements of animals wandering in the park.

Kanger Valley National Park witnesses the fruitful outcome of persistent efforts towards wild animal conservation and protection in Chhattisgarh. The Kanger Valley National Park Management has appointed local tribal youths as ‘patrolling guards’ for the protection of wild animals, and they are also arranging patrolling camps at various places in KVNP.

Indian Wild Wolves, as endangered as tigers, have been added to the list of protected species under the Wildlife Protection Act. According to the estimates of the Scientific Survey of the Wildlife Institute of India, there are around 3100 Indian wolves in India, which are mainly found in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh. These are the top-class predators of India’s grasslands in their natural habitat. The KVNP has provided a safe habitat for them, and a large number of prey is available for their survival.

Kanger Valley National Park Director Dhammasheel Ganveer, stated that consistent efforts are being made for the protection of wildlife in the national park. There are 18 patrolling camps established in the national park, where local youths are working as patrol guards. All these efforts have shown a positive impact, which includes the protection of animals, the participation of villagers in wildlife conservation, and the recovery of endangered species. These efforts have also provided employment opportunities to the youth of the local tribal community.
