Dispatch News.
The workers at AIIMS Raipur have gone on strike. Around 800 employees got laid off. They were all sitting on a dharna on the road on Friday morning. This is all housekeeping and cleaning personnel. The strike of these employees working in various departments has severely hampered the hospital’s operations.
The protesting employees allege exploitation. A company named MJ looks after housekeeping-related work in AIIMS, Raipur. In all, more than 800 employees work in different sections. These include cleaners, electricians, gardeners, and other staff.
All the employees working different shifts stopped working on Friday and shouted slogans on the road. Employees claim that they get harassed at work by being given absentee notice or being paid less. All the employees have made these allegations against the manager of the company. Women have also alleged harassment. Day, night, and general shift workers are on strike. If the demands are not accepted, then the strike can continue on Saturday also. The employees’ union will decide on this soon.

SC Bhattacharya, vice president of the AIIMS Outsourcing Employees Union, said that the employees are agitating for ten different demands. Continuous discussions have been held with AIIMS management over the last few days, but the demand has not been accepted, forcing the employees to go on strike.
Mansingh Parmar, the manager of the housekeeping company, is accused of harassing the employees. Twenty-two employees got fired without notice in the last month. This included cleaning personnel, cleaning supervisors, electrical technicians, and gardeners.
According to SC Bhattacharya, the management did not apply labour law while terminating these employees. Whereas, under the rules of labour law, before removing the employees from work, they have to give notice, but here the officers act arbitrarily. After arguing with the employees, the management people get them appointed.

These AIIMS employees are not abiding by labour laws, EPF rules, and minimum-wage laws. According to employee leader Bhattacharya, skilled workers should get Rs 680, while the workers make only 553.
