Home Department receives 1,400-page probe report in DSP-businessman case

Raipur
The Chhattisgarh Home Department has received a comprehensive 1,400-page investigation report concerning the controversy involving Dantewada Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kalpana Verma and Raipur-based hotelier Deepak Tandon. The report alleges that the officer leaked sensitive intelligence and shared confidential departmental information via WhatsApp.
Intelligence breach and IPS involvement
The investigation, led by Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kirtan Rathore over a 30-day period, claims that DSP Verma shared classified data through mobile chats. These messages reportedly contained inputs on Naxal activities, security force deployments, and planned operations.
Furthermore, the report mentions the names of three Indian Police Service (IPS) officers in the leaked conversations. Security experts noted that such breaches represent a direct threat to internal state security. Senior officials have submitted the findings to the state government for further action.
Allegations of financial extortion
Raipur businessman Deepak Tandon alleged that the DSP extorted approximately ₹2.5 crore from him since 2021 through a “love trap.” According to the complaint, the total includes:
- ₹2 crore in cash
- A luxury car
- A diamond ring worth ₹12 lakh
- Gold jewellery valued at ₹5 lakh
Tandon claimed the officer refused to return the car and jewellery despite repeated requests. The probe also looked into allegations that the DSP took money from the businessman to open a hotel in her brother’s name. Investigators have scrutinised bank transactions and property documents related to these claims.
DSP denies charges
DSP Kalpana Verma dismissed the allegations as a conspiracy intended to defame her. She stated that the WhatsApp chats circulating on social media are fake and that the businessman owed her father over ₹42 lakh. Verma maintained that she is cooperating with the investigating agencies and expressed confidence that the truth will be revealed.
The DSP’s family has also filed a counter-complaint against the businessman, which was included in the scope of the 30-day inquiry.
