Raipur
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi recounted the substantial achievements of the Congress party, emphasizing the rapid transformation brought about within hours of forming the government. He was addressing an election rally in Bhanupratappur constituency of Bastar on Saturday. The 12 constituencies of Bastar among 20 are going to the poll on November 7.
Rahul asserted that the Congress party delivered on its promises with exceptional speed, disproving the BJP’s doubts. The promises were realized within two hours of taking office.
A staggering Rs 10,000 crore in loans were waived for the benefit of farmers, providing them with much-needed relief, electricity bills were slashed in half, reducing the financial burden on the people, he said.
A substantial yearly aid of Rs 7,000 was committed to five lakh laborers and farmers, further promoting their welfare.
He criticised Modi government for enacting anti-farmer laws, which ultimately favored industrialists like Adani.
The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) was undermined by the ruling government, leading to detrimental consequences, he alleged.
Rahul Gandhi highlighted the need for awareness within the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community, pointing out that the current government does not truly represent their interests. He advocated for a caste-based census to ensure their accurate representation.
Emphasizing the historical significance of Adivasis as the original owners of Hindustan, Rahul Gandhi advocated for securing land rights for Adivasis and the preservation of water and land resources.
He clarified that “Adivasi” is the appropriate term for these communities, challenging any derogatory alternatives.
Rahul Gandhi condemned an incident in Madhya Pradesh where a BJP leader urinated on an Adivasi, illustrating the problematic mindset within certain political circles.
The rally also addressed the concern of Tendupatta (tendu leaf) collectors who are facing issues with procurement.
Rahul advocated for the promotion of regional languages like Chhattisgarhi and emphasized the importance of education in these languages. English medium schools were established for underprivileged children, ensuring equal educational opportunities.
Criticism was leveled at demonetization and the Goods and Services Tax (GST), with Rahul asserting that these policies chiefly benefited Adani. He pledged to implement pending promises upon his party’s return to power.
The event also featured remarks from Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, who endorsed the swift fulfillment of promises by the Congress party. Key points from his speech include:
Baghel expressed concerns about the central government’s treatment of farmers. He highlighted the discontinuation of bonuses by the double-engine government in 2014, affecting both the state and central levels. A letter was written to the Prime Minister requesting the resumption of bonus payments, which is still pending approval.
Baghel expressed trust in Rahul Gandhi’s words and the significant impact they have had.
Within ten days of assuming power, the Congress government waived farmers’ loans and returned land to tribals.
Regardless of the central government’s contribution, the Congress party pledged to construct over 17 lakh homes for underprivileged individuals.
Rahul Gandhi will hold rallies in Rajnandgaon at 1 PM and Kawardha at 2:50 PM on Sunday, lending his support to Congress candidates and potentially unveiling new election promises.
