Chhattisgarh High Court stays cooperative elections to be held this month
Raipur: Chhattisgarh High Court has put a stay on the election of cooperative societies to be held this month.
The matter was heard before the Division Bench of the Chief Justice.
Prem Prakash Gupta, a resident of Mahasamund, challenged the decision of the state government to conduct elections of cooperative societies in the High Court through advocate Varun Sharma.
It was said in the petition that elections cannot be held before the completion of the term of the elected representatives working in the cooperative sector. In the year 2019, after the hearing of the case, the High Court had clearly said in its order that no elected representative will be removed before the completion of their term. After this order of the High Court, the state government had announced to hold cooperative elections in December 2021, citing lack of quorum after holding a meeting.
