Building collapsed in Bilaspur, BMC Commissioner forms five-member committee to find reason behind collapse

Raipur
Local MLA Shailesh Pandey, former Mayor Rajesh Pandey, Shekhar Madaliyar, Chandrapradeep Vajpayee and Sunita Manikpuri rushed to Mangla Chowk in Bilaspur when they came to know about the collapse of a three-story building around 7 am on Saturday. Fortunately, the building was being used to run the commercial activities and no one was present when it collapsed.
As the local residents created a chaos, Bilaspur Municipal Corporation Commissioner Kunal Dudawat announced an immediate compensation of five lakh rupees on behalf of the contractors’ association. However, local BJP politicians expressed displeasure. Similarly, City MLA Shailesh Pandey and other leaders pressed for immediate compensation of ten lakh rupees.

The Commissioner later announced to give ten lakh rupees to the operator of the medical shop on behalf of the contractors’ association immediately on the demand of MLA Shailesh Pandey and other public representatives. On the demand of the MLA, contractors Abhishek Singh, Dipendra Tiwari and Rajkumar Tiwari jointly gave two checks of Rs 5 lakh each.

MLA Pandey presented a check of ten lakhs to the shop owner Vishal Gupta.
The corporation commissioner constituted a five-member team and asked to submit the report within three days. But on the demand of the traders, the MLA said that two five-member teams would find out the reasons for the collapse of the shop. The report will be submitted within three days. After receiving the report, other action including compensation will be executed. During this, the MLA did not tell on which points the investigation would be done.
The corporation administration is constructing a drain at Mangala Chowk. The old drain is being deepened and widened for drain construction. It is being said that the medical shop has erected his wall on the drain itself and it resulted in the collapse of the building. The owner of the building has not even left six-ft setback which is mandatory. Rather, he extended his construction in drainage boundary wall.
An official of the corporation said that a notice to remove the encroachment has been sent to the shop owner about fifteen days ago. A major part of the shop is on government land. The construction has taken place on an area much more than the permitted area. The owner sought permission from the corporation to construct a two-story building. But without informing the corporation, a three-story building has been constructed.
