Health min TS Singh Deo took stringent action in the case of death of newborns in Ambikapur Medical College Hospital
Raipur: Health and Medical Education Minister TS Singh Deo has taken strict action in the case of death of four newborns in special neonatal care unit (SNCU) of Government Medical College Hospital (GMCH) Ambikapur. The Medical Education Department of the State Government has today suspended Dr. Kamlesh Prasad Vishwakarma, Senior Resident (Pediatrician) of the Department of Pediatrics in the hospital after his approval. Dr. Vishwakarma was not present during the night duty despite the admission of newborns in critical condition in the Pediatrics Department on the night of the incident, nor did he take any concrete initiative for the treatment of the admitted infants.
The state government has suspended Dr. Kamlesh Prasad Vishwakarma with immediate effect under rule 9 (a) of the Chhattisgarh Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1966 for not discharging official duties and responsibilities promptly. During the suspension period, his headquarters has been fixed as office of Civil Surgeon-cum-Chief Hospital Superintendent, District Hospital Surajpur and he will be eligible for subsistence allowance as per rules.
The Medical Education Department has also removed Dr. Lakhan Singh, superintendent of the hospital affiliated to Ambikapur Medical College. In his place, Director-cum-Professor of the Department of Pathology, Dr. R.C. Arya has been appointed as the new hospital superintendent.
