Ganeshotsav begins on Wednesday: Raipur police ban DJs, cite court guidelines; operators insist on playing at low volume

RaipurGaneshotsav celebrations will begin across the country, including the state capital Raipur, from Wednesday, August 27. Ahead of the festival, Raipur police held a meeting with DJ operators regarding noise restrictions.

ASP Lakhan Patle instructed operators to strictly follow Supreme Court and High Court guidelines, making it clear that only traditional musical instruments would be allowed during Ganeshotsav. He said the use of DJs is prohibited, and strict action will be taken against anyone found violating the rules.

However, DJ operators reportedly disagreed with the police directive and insisted that they would play DJ and dhol-dhumal at low volume during the festivities.

ASP Patle further clarified that:

  • No NOC will be issued for DJ operations.
  • DJs are strictly banned within 100 metres of hospitals, schools, and public places.
  • Use of DJs or loudspeakers is prohibited after 10 pm.
  • High-decibel music will not be permitted under any circumstances.
  • Repeat violations will result in seizure of the vehicle, while operators caught playing DJs despite the ban will face heavy fines.

Meanwhile, Raipur Dhumal DJ Association president Gautam Mahanand said, “If we don’t play, how will our members earn their livelihood? We will operate DJs and dhol-dhumal at low volume during Ganeshotsav. Last year we had to pay heavy penalties. Ganeshotsav is one of the most important Hindu festivals, and we will welcome and bid farewell to Lord Ganesha with DJs at controlled sound levels.”
