Five young men, including a 16-year-old, were killed in a horrific road accident in the early hours of Sunday when the i20 car they were travelling in collided with a parked trailer on National Highway-43 near Pandripani turn under Duldula police station limits.
According to Jashpur Police, the crash occurred between Loro and Patratoli villages around midnight. A police team, with the assistance of villagers, pulled the severely injured occupants out of the mangled car and rushed them to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared all five dead on arrival.
The deceasedโidentified as Ankit Tigga (16), Radheshyam Yadav (26), Uday Chauhan (18), Deepak Pradhan (18), and Sagar Tirkey (22)โwere all residents of Khatanga village in Duldula. Families and villagers gathered at the mortuary as the bodies were handed over to relatives after postmortem examinations.
Police said a trailer bearing registration NL-01-AB-5953 was involved in the collision. A case has been registered against the trailer driver under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The driver fled the scene after the accident and remains absconding.
Investigators are examining the exact circumstances of the crash, including whether the trailer was improperly parked and the possibility of speeding by the car. The accident spot, a sharp turn near Pandripani, is known for poor visibility at night, locals said.
Police have launched a search for the absconding trailer driver and assured that he will be arrested soon.
