EOW Seeks 7-Day Remand of Businessman Vijay Bhatia in Multi-Crore Chhattisgarh Scam; Court Reserves Order

Raipur: Businessman Vijay Bhatia, currently in one-day judicial remand in connection with the Chhattisgarh liquor scam, was produced before a special court in Raipur on Monday. During the hearing, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) sought seven-day remand of the accused. After arguments from both sides, the court reserved its order.

Bhatia was arrested from Delhi on Sunday by the ACB-EOW team and brought to Raipur. He has been sent to one-day judicial custody.

On Sunday, the EOW had conducted raids at multiple locations linked to Bhatia in Durg-Bhilai, including his residence in Nehru Nagar, where officers arrived early in the morning in two separate vehicles. Important documents were reportedly seized during the operation. Since Sunday was a court holiday, he was presented in court the following day.

The investigation is part of a larger probe into an alleged multi-crore liquor scam in the state.
