Raipur: Mumbai police have arrested Faizan Khan, a lawyer from Raipur, for allegedly making death threats against Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan over the phone. Despite receiving a notice, Faizan failed to appear at Bandra Police Station. He is set to appear in Raipur Court on Tuesday. Previously, Faizan claimed his phone was lost and alleged he was being framed.
The lawyer had raised objections to a dialogue in one of Khan’s films where the character mentions “cooking and eating deer” and expresses enjoyment in hunting. Faizan, who belongs to the Bishnoi community, stated that this dialogue hurt their religious sentiments as they revere deer. He filed complaints regarding this in Mumbai and Jodhpur.
Faizan was issued a notice by Mumbai police on November 7 to appear at Bandra Police Station on November 11 for questioning about the threatening call and a demand for Rs 50 lakh. However, Faizan did not appear, leading to his arrest in Raipur today, November 12. Arrangements are underway to transport him to Mumbai on a transit remand.
The investigation began with a phone call to the Bandra Police Station, where an unidentified caller threatened Shah Rukh Khan’s life, demanding Rs 50 lakh. Prompt action by Mumbai police led officers to Raipur on November 6, where they tracked a SIM card to Faizan’s location.
Faizan claimed he lost his phone on November 2 and filed a missing report at Khamhardih Police Station on November 4. The threatening call was made on November 5, just one day later. Initially released after providing a copy of his police report, Faizan was later asked to appear for additional questioning in Mumbai.
According to Faizan, he took issue with a scene in Anjaam, Shah Rukh Khan’s 1994 film, in which the actor, portraying a hunter, discusses deer hunting. Faizan argues that the scene disrespects the Bishnoi community and attempts to incite communal tension. He filed complaints in both Jodhpur and Mumbai, raising concerns about potential discord.
Faizan claims his SIM was used without his knowledge in the threatening call, alleging a conspiracy against him. He has expressed concerns for his family’s safety, reporting the matter to Raipur SSP Santosh Singh.
