Electricity Duty Amendment Bill passed in Assembly.

Electricity will be expensive in the state now that the assembly has passed the Chhattisgarh Electricity Duty Amendment Bill during the assembly session. The opposition fought against the bill.

During the discussion, BJP MLA Ajay Chandrakar said that the government is filling its pockets by increasing the electricity duty. Before this, it was the Gauthan cess, the corona cess and a cess on liquor.

CM Bhupesh Baghel said that the government is proportioning the electricity rates after ten years. Before this, the proportion was done in 2012, when the BJP was in power. Its amount will go to the Consolidated Fund of the state. The duty levied is not Cess.
With the passage of this amendment bill, now the energy charges will increase. Energy charges on domestic consumers have risen from 8% to 11%. An increase of 3% for domestic consumers. For non-domestic consumers, the percentage has increased from 12% to 17%.
