CRPF Jawan martyred, assistant commandant injured in Bastar elections

Bastar witness 58.14% voting at 3 PM

During the ongoing Lok Sabha elections’ first phase in Bastar, Chhattisgarh, a CRPF-196 Battalion jawan was martyred in a grenade blast in the Galgam area of Usur Thana, Bijapur. The jawan, identified as Constable Devendra Kumar, was on area domination duty when the incident occurred. Additionally, an IED blast in the Chikka area of Bhairamgarh Thana resulted in injuries to Assistant Commandant Manu, who sustained wounds to his left leg and left hand. These incidents have marred the polling process, raising concerns about security in the region.
The voting process for the Jagdalpur and Bastar Assembly seats concluded at 3 pm, with a notable voter turnout observed. By 3 PM, the voter turnout on the parliamentary seat had reached 58.14%. The voting percentage may increase once the data is received from interior parts of Bastar.
However, several challenges have emerged, including the presence of Naxal threats affecting voter participation in certain areas. Despite these challenges, the enthusiasm among voters remains palpable, with instances of dedication and civic duty emerging amidst the adversities.
