CRPF jawan dies by suicide in Chhattisgarh

A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan, Pappu Yadav, from Bhojpur, Bihar, died by suicide on Wednesday in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh. Yadav’s wife, Atisundar Devi, alleged that her husband was being harassed and tortured by his seniors.
Yadav, 38, was posted with the 22nd Battalion in Mingachal, Bijapur. He shot himself in the neck with his service rifle around 5 am on Wednesday. He died on the spot. Family members said Yadav had returned to duty only three days prior after a month-long leave.
According to the deceased’s wife, he used to tell her that when he took leave, his seniors would harass him, pressure him into duty, and that there was no fixed time; they would send him on posting anytime.
Pappu Yadav is survived by his two daughters, Manisha, 14, and Anushka, 10. Manisha, a Class 9 student.
Pappu Yadav had joined the CRPF after completing his intermediate studies, despite getting married at a young age.
