Congress stage gherao at Raj Bhawan in Raipur in protest against ED action in National Herald case

Raipur:Thousands of Congress workers staged a protest demonstration at Raj Bhawan in the state capital of Chhattisgarh in protest against the questioning of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with Rs 2000 crore money laundering in National Herald case and alleged lathicharge on Congress workers at ED Headquarters in Delhi.
The Congress workers and leaders in Chhattisgarh on Thursday attempted to gheraoe the Raj Bhawan in Raipur.It was said that there was a scuffle between some Congress workers and police who tried to prevent the Congressmen from enter the main gate of the Raj Bhawan.
Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CPCC) president Mohan Markam led the protest. The Congress leaders and workers shouted slogan against the Centre for the misuse of Central agencies to harass the oppositions. As Rahul Gandhi is exposing every move of BJP, the Central government is trying to suppress his voice, said Chhattisgarh Congress leaders.

After an hour-long dharna and address by the Congressmen at Dr Ambedkar statue near Ghadi Chowk, the Congressmen walked to the Raj Bhawan. According to the police, only prominent leaders were allowed to enter inside the Raj Bhawan and meet the Governor. Meanwhile, Youth Congress and NSUI members clashed with police personnel in their efforts to enter the Raj Bhawan. Besides, Mohan Markam, MLA SatyanarayanSharma, Minister Dr Shiv Kumar Dahriya met the Governor Anusuiya Uikey and submitted a memorandum addressing the President of India.

Congress leaders also tried to gherao Raj Bhawan in Delhi on Thursday. However, they were stopped by the police. Mukul Wasanik, Shakti Singh Gohil, AvinashPandey, Harish Chaudhary, Ajay Maken, Chandan Yadav, Anil Chaudhary, along with Raipur MLA VikasUpadhyay were also present in the demonstration.
Demonstration in district and blocks tomorrow
Congress on Thursday announced district and block level demonstrations on Friday. All MPs,MLAs, office bearers and public representatives have been asked to participate in the demonstration in their respective areas. Congress workers will send a memorandum to the President through the District Collector.
