Congress Protest in Raipur After Woman Killed in Road Mishap; FIR Filed Against Protesters

Raipur:
Following the tragic death of a young woman in a road accident at Telibandha Chowk, Congress workers staged a protest demanding the immediate construction of a speed breaker at the spot. The protest took the form of a dharna at the accident site, where party workers blocked the National Highway. In response, Telibandha police registered an FIR against 20 to 25 Congress workers based on a complaint lodged by an auto-rickshaw driver. The FIR does not mention any specific names.

Accident Details

The accident occurred around 11:30 AM on Friday. A truck, en route from Magneto Mall towards Tatibandh, was stationary at a red light. As the signal turned green, the truck moved forward and struck a scooter on its left side, crushing the rider under its rear wheels.

The victim, identified as Tanya, died on the spot. The impact was so severe that her skull and chest bones were shattered. Eyewitnesses reported that her brain was exposed following the collision, and the scooter remained trapped under the truck.

According to Telibandha SHO Narendra Mishra, initial investigations suggest the scooter may have entered the truck’s blind spot, and the driver, unaware of Tanya’s presence, moved forward. The truck involved in the accident is registered in Ambikapur district of Chhattisgarh.

Victim Was a PhD Aspirant

Tanya, a resident of Golden Sky Apartment Phase-2 on VIP Road, was on her way to a library for studies when the accident occurred. She was preparing for the UGC-NET exam, aspiring to pursue a PhD.

Her father, Ramkrishna, is a pharmaceutical businessman, and her brother, a doctor, had been married just ten days earlier. The family is now in deep mourning.

Protest by Congress Workers

Following the incident, Congress workers led by former MLA Vikas Upadhyay gathered at the accident site and staged a protest, demanding immediate safety measures including the construction of a speed breaker. They blocked the highway and held a sit-in at Telibandha Chowk.

Authorities Respond

On Saturday, senior officials including the Raipur Collector, Superintendent of Police (SP), Traffic DSP, and others visited the accident site for inspection. Meanwhile, the police have arrested the truck driver, Rampravesh Kumar.

The woman’s body was sent for postmortem and later handed over to her family.
