Cong state president orders removal of campaign material in Raipur ahead of plenary session

Raipur: Congress party’s preparations for its 85th national convention have been marred by a dispute within the Chhattisgarh Congress organization. The issue has arisen due to an ongoing publicity campaign for the convention, which has led to an aggressive poster and hoarding campaign by the Mayor of Raipur, Ajaz Dhebar. The roads leading to the city and the convention venue have been covered with campaign material, leading to an order by the state party president, Mohan Markam, to remove the campaign material.
Initially, the advertising material put up by some Congress leaders did not even mention Mohan Markam’s name. When opposition to this started, Mohan Markam’s photo was separately affixed to the advertising material. By evening, there was a commotion within the state Congress over this issue. Late in the evening, the in-charge general secretary of the PCC, Ravi Ghosh, issued an order. He stated that, on the basis of Mohan Markam’s instructions, the advertising material that had been put up should be removed, otherwise it would be removed by force.

As per the order issued by the PCC, the area from Ekatm Path to Purkhoti Mukhtangan’s Tea Point in Nava Raipur, the area from Mela Ground to Main Entry Point, and the area from Fair Resort to VVIP Entry Point will be reserved for the the plenary session and will be a part of the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Nagar. Only the publicity materials of the Pradesh Congress Committee and the All India Congress Committee can be displayed in this entire area with their permission.
