Raipur: Chief minister Bhupesh Baghel on Wednesday paid tributes to the 32 martyrs of Jhiram Ghati massacre committed by the left wing extremists on May 25, 2013. Recalling the heart-wrenching incident that left several senior frontline leaders of the Congress dead, the Chief Minister said that the sacrifice of these leaders, who had dreamt for a change in the lives of people, will be remembered forever for their exemplary works.
The Chief Minister dedicated the Jhiram Ghati Martyrs Memorial at Lalbagh Maidan in Jagdalpur on Wednesday. The Chief Minister hoisted the tricolor about 100-ft high national flag in the memory of the martyrs.
The Chief Minister said that he salutes to the martyrs who laid their lives. Those sacrificed their lives in the incident had dreamt to bring a change to the lives of farmers, youth, children and women.
The Chief Minister said that the martyr leaders would have been happy to see their party doing justice with everyone in the state, had they been alive today. However, their blessings are with them, said the Chief Minister, adding, the Congress stands by the martyrs’ families in their good and bad times as they are all families.
The memorial has been established in the memory of 32 martyrs at Jhiram Ghati in Lalbagh Maidan of Jagdalpur. The Jhiram Ghati Martyrs Memorial is dedicated to the general public in memory of the martyrs.
As many as 32 people, including senior Congress leaders Nandkumar Patel, Vidyacharan Shukla, Mahendra Karma, Uday Mudaliyar, Yogendra Sharma were killed in the Naxal violence. Many workers, jawans and common people were also killed in the incident. Jhiram Ghati Tribute Day is being observed on May 25 to keep the memory of the sacrifices of the martyrs alive.
