Raipur – High drama unfolded at Navkar Hospital on Friday as relatives of a woman who attempted suicide engaged in a violent scuffle on the premises. The confrontation between the woman’s paternal family and her in-laws escalated into a physical brawl, forcing personnel from two police stations to intervene.
Incident Details
Yasmeen Parveen, a resident of Shiv Nagar (Santoshi Nagar), allegedly attempted to end her life by hanging at her residence on Thursday night. She was rushed to Navkar Hospital in a critical condition. Doctors treating her informed the family on Friday that her chances of survival remained slim.
The medical update triggered an immediate confrontation. The woman’s paternal relatives accused her in-laws of orchestrating a “planned murder” and attempting to portray it as a suicide. The verbal spat quickly turned violent, with both sides exchanging blows and pushing each other within the hospital complex, creating panic among other patients and staff.
Police Intervention
Upon receiving information about the clash, teams from City Kotwali and Tikrapara police stations reached the spot to restore order. Extra police force was deployed at the hospital as a precautionary measure to prevent further violence.
City Kotwali SHO Satish Singh confirmed that the situation was brought under control after police intervened and counselled both parties.
Allegations of Foul Play
The woman’s family has refused to accept the suicide theory. They alleged that the incident was a premeditated attempt on her life.
“We reached the spot as soon as we received reports of the clash. Both sides have been pacified. We have not received a formal complaint from either party so far. If a complaint is lodged, we will initiate an investigation into the allegations,” SHO Singh said.
The woman remains in critical condition under medical supervision.
