Chhattisgarh Waqf Board Chairman Dr Salim Raj Hits Back at Rahul Gandhi Over Constitution Remark, Says Congress Has Repeatedly Undermined the Constitution

The Party Stands Against National Unity and Muslim Progress

Chhattisgarh Waqf Board Chairman Dr Salim Raj has sharply responded to Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi’s recent statement calling the Waqf Amendment Bill a “constitutional assault.” Dr Raj said that it was, in fact, the Congress which had launched the most serious attacks on the Constitution during its nearly 70-year rule.
He alleged that during the Emergency, the Congress committed the grave sin of amending even the Preamble of the Constitution in a Parliament devoid of Opposition. “Today, the same Congress that repeatedly trampled upon the dignity of the Constitution is shedding crocodile tears in its name,” he said, calling the party’s stance sheer hypocrisy.
Responding to Congress’ criticism of the new Waqf law, Dr Raj said that viewing the legislation through the lens of religion and caste reflects the Congress’s political mindset. He asserted that the Modi-led government has taken a broad and inclusive approach to national unity and that the amended Waqf law is meant to protect the interests of all communities.
He added that the new law will open up avenues for the educational, social, and economic empowerment of underprivileged and backward Muslims. Dr Raj also criticized Congress leaders for their lack of participation in the parliamentary debate on such a crucial issue. “Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Vadra, and Sonia Gandhi remained silent during the discussion, and their subsequent statements only prove that the Congress is unwilling to let go of its communal appeasement politics,” he said.
He further accused the party of intellectual bankruptcy and claimed that progressive Muslims across the country have welcomed and supported the Waqf Amendment Bill, considering it beneficial to their community.
