Chhattisgarh Police Senior IPS Officer Faces Sexual Harassment Allegations; Family Disputes Complainant’s Claims

Raipur

A major twist has emerged in the sexual harassment allegations against a senior IPS officer of Chhattisgarh Police. The yoga instructor, who accused IG Dangi of sexual harassment, has had her claims refuted by her own family members (elder sister and brother-in-law).

During a discussion with the media, the complainant’s elder sister stated that the allegations made by her younger sister against the IPS officer were false. She emphasized that her younger sister has had this pattern since childhood and has even made similar accusations against their father and her brother-in-law in the past.

The elder sister called the allegations against the IPS officer baseless. According to her, when her younger sister was a minor, she would repeatedly leave home with different boys. She claimed that because of such behavior, their family was torn apart.

Both the complainant’s elder sister and brother-in-law addressed the media. They described the woman’s behavior as suspicious and claimed she has previously been involved in incidents of fraud and blackmail. The brother-in-law stated that she would often make false accusations in family disputes to demand money, and said, “Now she has targeted an honest officer.” They asserted they possess documents and statements from her previous cases. According to reports, there are several earlier complaints against the woman, which might be included in the current investigation.

The senior IPS officer has been accused of sexual harassment by the wife of an SI posted in the police department. The woman alleges that for the past seven years, the IPS officer has subjected her to physical and mental harassment.

Meanwhile, the IPS officer informed the DGP through a written complaint that the woman was trying to defame and blackmail him. He further stated that she had threatened to consume poison and imposed conditions for constant surveillance via video calls.

The woman filed her complaint at Police Headquarters on October 15. She explained that her first meeting with the IPS officer was in Korba in 2017, where the officer was posted as SP. Their initial communication started on social media, which later expanded. While Dangi was posted in Dantewada, the woman, through video calls, taught him yoga.

The woman claims that harassment intensified when the IPS officer became IG in Rajnandgaon and Surguja, and further escalated after he took charge as Bilaspur IG. Her complaint alleges that the IPS officer used to call her to his residence in the absence of his wife and would threaten her with transfer if she didn’t comply. Even after her transfer to Chandrakhuri Police Training Academy, he allegedly pressured her to remain in contact through video calls from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. She also claims to have several objectionable digital evidences.

Following Police Headquarters’ instructions, IG Anand Chhabra has been assigned to investigate the complaint against the IPS officer.
