Chhattisgarh Police Foil Parcel Bomb Conspiracy, Seven Arrested with 2 Kg Explosives and 60 Gelatin Sticks

Raipur. The Chhattisgarh police have averted a major tragedy by busting a parcel bomb conspiracy in Khairagarh district’s Gandai area. Police recovered a 2 kg improvised explosive device (IED) concealed inside a speaker and arrested seven accused linked to the plot.

The parcel was disguised as a gift pack with a fake India Post logo and bogus address, initially appearing to be a normal delivery. Technical examination revealed that the device was designed to detonate the moment the speaker was connected to a power source. Gelatin sticks were used as the main explosive, wired with the speaker system, while the speaker’s outer structure was designed to burst into lethal pellets on detonation.

Investigations revealed the conspiracy was aimed at killing Afsar Khan. The explosives were illegally procured from a stone quarry in Durg district. The main accused, Vinay Verma, built the IED after watching online tutorials.

Roles of the accused:

  • Parmeshwar Verma financed the purchase with ₹6,000.
  • Vinay Verma assembled the IED and delivered the parcel.
  • Gopal Verma assisted in delivery.
  • Khilesh Verma created the fake India Post logo and address.
  • Ghasiram Verma procured gelatin sticks from suppliers.
  • Gopal Satnami and Dilip Dhimer supplied the explosives illegally.

During the raid, police seized 60 gelatin sticks and two detonators, confirming a direct link to the illegal explosive supply chain.

An FIR has been registered at Gandai police station. Officials said the timely action not only foiled a targeted murder attempt but also uncovered an organized illegal explosives network operating in the region.
