Chhattisgarh: Helpline facility started for the elderly, PwDs and TG community

Raipur: Chhattisgarh Government has started a new facility to provide necessary facilities to the elderly, differently-abled and people belonging to the third gender community in case of emergency. Through this facility started as per the announcement of the chief minister, assistance will be given for medical aid, pension and to resolve problems related to government schemes.


Women and child development minister Anila Bhediya and urban administration minister Dr Shiv Kumar Dahariya on Sunday formally inaugurated this new facility being operated by the Social Welfare Department.


In a programme organized on the occasion of International Day of Disabled Persons, Women Child Development and Social Welfare Minister Anila Bhediya said that on the approval of chief minister Baghel, rehabilitation equipment including motorized tricycles will be distributed to about 10,000 divyangs every year. Similarly, skill upgradation training will be given to 15,000 divyangs according to their interest to connect them with employment. Under this, an action plan has been chalked out to provide skill upgradation training to 5,000 visually impaired, hearing, speech and orthopedically impaired people.
Chief minister Bhupesh Baghel announced to start the facility of helpline number 155326 and toll-free number- 1800-233-8989 for the elderly, differently-abled and third-gender community on State Foundation Day. This facility was being operated on an experimental basis by the Social Welfare Department. Now, it has been duly launched on the occasion of the International Day of Disabled Persons. Mahtari Express-102, Medical Helpline 104 and number 112 issued for emergency services have also been linked with this new facility.


Social Welfare Department officials said that the trial of the new helpline facility was going on since November 01. Everyday senior citizen and divyangs are getting information related to pension and departmental schemes. Besides, TG community people are seeking information about the employment and benefits being given to them by the state government. Several schemes and programmes are being run by the Social Welfare Department for the welfare and rehabilitation of senior citizens, Divyangs and people of the TG community. Through the helpline and toll-free number, along with getting information about departmental schemes, people concerned can avail many emergency services including counselling, complaint, and redressal of pension payments.
