Chhattisgarh Excels in Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 : Bilha Named India’s Cleanest Among Towns Under 20,000 Population

Raipur: Chhattisgarh has garnered national recognition for its performance in the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25, an annual cleanliness survey conducted by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. Seven urban bodies from the state received awards for their sanitation efforts.
Bilha Nagar Panchayat achieved a significant milestone, ranking as India’s cleanest city in the category of towns with a population under 20,000. Bilaspur secured the second position nationally among cities with a population of 3 lakh to 10 lakh. Kumhari ranked third in the category for towns with populations between 20,000 and 50,000.
President Droupadi Murmu presented the national awards at a ceremony held on Thursday at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Administration and Development Minister Arun Sao, along with mayors, chairpersons, and officials from the award-winning local bodies, received the honours.
Chhattisgarh also performed well in the newly introduced Super Sanitation League (SSL) category. This league honours cities that have ranked among the top three at least once in the past three years and are in the top 20 this year. Ambikapur was recognised in the 50,000 to 3 lakh population category, while Patan and Bishrampur secured places in the under-20,000 population group.
Raipur, the state capital, received the “Promising Swachh City” award for Chhattisgarh, acknowledging its ongoing efforts and potential in urban sanitation.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai congratulated all the winning urban bodies, stating that these achievements bring immense pride to the state. He said the awards reflect the collective commitment of citizens, civic bodies, and the administration towards cleanliness. He added that such recognition will encourage other towns and cities in Chhattisgarh to improve sanitation.
