Who Owns 928 kg of Silver Worth Rs 9 Crore : Silver Arrives in Raipur via Flight from Agra, CGGST Officials Unaware of Owner
Raipur
Raipur police seized 928 kg of silver bars during a routine check. The silver had arrived in Raipur from Agra by flight, and its estimated value is around Rs 9 crore. Even after 24 hours, officials have yet to identify the owners of the silver.
GST officials stated that only half of the consignment’s bill was found, while there is no record for the rest of the silver. However, transportation details for the entire consignment have been located.
According to Chhattisgarh’s Special Commissioner of Commercial Tax, T.L. Dhruv, the police handed over the 928 kg of silver bars to the department. The driver was loading it from the airport into a pickup vehicle to deliver it to a specified location. According to the officials, bills were found for about half of the stock.
Furthermore, Dhruv added that it’s still unclear where the driver was supposed to deliver the parcel. A notice has been issued to the transporter as well.
Despite having bills for a significant portion of the silver, GST officials have refrained from naming the owners. Moreover, they have not yet been able to trace the owners of the silver that lacks documentation even after 24 hours.
The police handed over the case to Chhattisgarh Commercial Tax (GST) department. It is reported that more than 12 prominent traders in the city own a large part of the seized silver, which was brought in to be melted down and used for making jewelry for the upcoming Diwali festival. Allegedly, the silver was transported to Raipur illegally to avoid taxes. However, the police seized it during the inspection.
On Monday, the Anti-Crime and Cyber Unit team was conducting a routine inspection. They stopped a small transport vehicle and discovered cartons inside. Upon opening them, they found silver bars packed in 51 cartons.
According to the police, a man named Sunny Kumar Singh was in the vehicle. He did not have any valid documents related to the silver, so the police confiscated the bars from him and handed the case over to the Chhattisgarh Commercial Tax (GST) department.
