Union Home Minister Amit Shah Visits Chhattisgarh: Sukma Naxalite Arrests, Raipur Honours Mark the Day
Raipur
During Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Chhattisgarh, critical developments unfolded as nine Naxalites were arrested in Sukma, along with the recovery of explosive materials, just ahead of his tour of Bastar. According to reports, this operation was conducted during a security force search operation, and SP Kiran Chavan confirmed the arrests. In a parallel development, five hardcore Naxalites, including a couple, surrendered to authorities. Among them, a male and a female Naxalite carried bounties of ₹8 lakh each, amounting to a total of ₹25 lakh in rewards for their capture.
On the same day in Raipur, Amit Shah presented the prestigious President’s Colours to the Chhattisgarh Police at the Police Parade Ground, marking the highest honor for exemplary service and dedication to duty in armed and police forces. Shah, while addressing the event, praised the Chhattisgarh Police for earning this distinction within just 25 years of the state’s formation, calling it a remarkable achievement. Highlighting their effective measures against Naxalism, Shah asserted that Chhattisgarh would be free of Naxal influence by March 31, 2026.
The honor recognizes the Chhattisgarh Police’s distinguished efforts in combating Naxalism and addressing other complex challenges. Established in 2000, the state police force has achieved this rare feat within just 24 years, making it one of the youngest forces to receive this accolade. Their achievements include significant successes in anti-Naxal operations, leveraging modern technology, and fostering community trust through innovative policing initiatives.
Under community policing, the Chhattisgarh Police introduced programs aimed at tribal youth, focusing on employment, education, and rehabilitation. These initiatives helped bridge trust between local communities and security forces. Furthermore, specialized units such as the District Reserve Group (DRG) have played a pivotal role in high-risk anti-Naxal operations, while the adoption of advanced crime-control technologies has enhanced their operational efficiency.
In his remarks, Shah lauded the Chhattisgarh Police’s commitment to public service, emphasizing their significant role in maintaining national security and combating Naxalism. He expressed confidence in the state’s progress, stating that Chhattisgarh Police’s operational excellence and dedication have carved a distinctive identity for the force at the national level.
