Three eminent lawyers including Kapil Sibal to appear before SC in CG govt’s reservation case

Raipur: Former Union minister and senior advocate Kapil Sibal, Mukul Rohatgi and Abhishek Manu Sindhvi will appear in the Supreme Court on behalf of Chhattisgarh government in a matter pertaining to the reservation case. The state government has started the process of appointing these three eminent lawyers in the special panel. The government will soon file an appeal in the Apex Court challenging the high court’s decision.

Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh High Court in its judgment on September 19 had declared Chhattisgarh’s 58% reservation as unconstitutional. With that the reservation for Scheduled Tribes reduced from 32 per cent to 20 per cent. Similarly, the reservation for Scheduled Castes increased from 12 per cent to 16 per cent. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel had said that 12 years ago the BJP had increased the reservation without any preparation. Its justification could not be proved before the court. We will go to the Supreme Court after carefully studying this decision.
