Ramen Deka to be Governor of Chhattisgarh

The governors of 10 states, including Chhattisgarh, have been changed. Ramen Deka will be the 10th Governor of Chhattisgarh. Deka will succeed  Biswabhusan Harichandan in Chhattisgarh. President Droupadi Murmu appointed new governors for 10 states, including Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, and Punjab, late Saturday night.


The Governor of Jharkhand, C.P. Radhakrishnan, will now be the Governor of Maharashtra. Ramesh Bais is currently the Governor of Maharashtra. Bais is a native of Chhattisgarh and has been a Member of Parliament from the Raipur Lok Sabha seat seven times. Similarly, Om Prakash Mathur has been appointed as the Governor of Sikkim, replacing Lakshman Prasad Acharya. Mathur has previously been in-charge of BJP in Chhattisgarh.


Deka, the new Governor of Chhattisgarh, hails from Assam. He has been a Member of Parliament twice from the Mangaldoi Lok Sabha seat.
Deka was born on March 1, 1954, in Sualkuchi in the Kamrup district of Assam. He has been a Member of Parliament twice from the Mangaldoi Lok Sabha seat on a BJP ticket. He is also one of the founding members of the BJP and has served as the President of the Assam BJP.


Deka will be the 10th Governor of Chhattisgarh. Governors Ram Naresh Yadav and Anandiben Patel have previously held additional charge of the state. Eight full-time governors have served the state. The first Governor of the state was D.N. Sahay.


Biswabhusan Harichandan was appointed as the Governor of Chhattisgarh in February 2023. He held the position for about one and a half years. Now, Ramen Deka from Assam will take over this responsibility.
Senior BJP leader Om Prakash Mathur, who has been appointed as the Governor of Sikkim, was previously in charge of BJP in Chhattisgarh. During the 2023 assembly elections, he was in charge of the BJP in the state. Under his strategy, the BJP won 54 seats in the state.


According to the list of governors, the current Governor of Maharashtra, Ramesh Bais, has not been given charge of any state. This means he will no longer be the Governor after the new Governor is sworn in. Similarly, Biswabhusan Harichandan, the current Governor of Chhattisgarh, has also not been given charge of any state.
