Raipur: ‘Mukhyamantri Vriksh Sampada Yojana’ in Chhattisgarh focuses on promoting commercial tree plantation to enhance farmers’ income and improve the environment. This initiative has gained praise from the ‘Rally for Rivers’ movement.
Taking to Twitter, the movement extended best wishes saying “this is a wonderful initiative of the state government to increase the income of farmers through commercial tree plantation.”
Launched on March 21, the scheme targets planting 15 crore saplings across 1.80 lakh acres of private land over five years. It aims to provide farmers an annual income of Rs 15,000 to 50,000 per acre, and carbon credits will contribute to their earnings. The state offers subsidies for tree planting, including a 100 per cent subsidy for five acres and a 50 per cent subsidy for more. The scheme supports identified tree species and has environmental and soil health benefits, along with promoting wood-based industries.
