Political Clash Erupts in Chhattisgarh Over Rising Crimes Against Women: Congress Accuses State Government of Cover-Up, BJP Hits Back

Raipur
The issue of “rising” crimes against women in Chhattisgarh has intensified the political atmosphere in the state, escalating the war of words between Congress and BJP. During a press conference today, Congress leader Supriya Shrinate leveled serious accusations against the state government concerning women’s safety. She claimed that over 600 rape cases and more than 3,000 crimes against women have been reported in Chhattisgarh in the past eight months. She also accused the state government of attempting to cover up these cases. Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Kedar Gupta responded to Shrinate’s accusations, asserting that she has a habit of pointing fingers at others while remaining silent on the actions of her own party’s leaders. He emphasized that their government is actively working to control crime.

Congress leader and Social Media Chairperson Supriya Shrinate held a press conference at Rajiv Bhawan, the Congress headquarters in the state, where she strongly criticized the increasing crimes against women in Chhattisgarh. Citing statistics, Shrinate claimed that over 600 rape cases and more than 3,000 crimes against women have been reported in the state over the past eight months. She accused the state government of covering up these cases, stressing that Congress will not remain silent on atrocities against half of the population.

Shrinate further remarked that half of the country’s population, referring to women, is not safe, and the entire nation is outraged. “No corner of the country is safe for women. How many Nirbhayas does this country need, and when will the protection provided by those in power end?” she questioned. She pointed out that Chhattisgarh is no exception, citing recent incidents such as the rape at the bus stand in Raipur, the molestation of a young girl in Bhilai, and the rape of a tribal woman in Raigarh. Shrinate lamented that victims are forced to stage protests just to get an FIR registered.

In response to Supriya Shrinate’s accusations against the government, BJP spokesperson Kedar Gupta hit back. He criticized Shrinate, saying she should also address her social media post regarding Kangana Ranaut’s candidacy from Mandi, the Radhika Kheda issue, the Tandoor case involving Manu Sharma, and the Jessica Lal murder case.

Gupta further claimed that Shrinate overlooks the atrocities against women that occurred during Bhupesh Baghel’s government. He pointed out that 1,294 rape incidents occurred in six months under the Congress government, whereas 600 occurred under their government, yet Supriya Shrinate and the Congress are raising objections. He asserted that their government is effectively controlling crime and cracking down on the drug trade. Gupta also noted that 11 BJP workers were killed during the Congress regime. He accused Congress of lacking respect for women and suggested that Shrinate should reflect on the stains within her own party.

Gupta added that the root cause of crime is betting and the dry drug trade, which flourished during Bhupesh Baghel’s government. He stated that their government is working to eradicate these issues. According to Gupta, crimes against women have decreased by 15 to 20 percent, and the Congress party is merely making accusations to cover up its own wrongdoings.
