Guru Ghasidas University Prepares for Grand Tenth Convocation Ceremony Amidst Rehearsals and Anticipation

The rehearsal of the grand and graceful Tenth Convocation Ceremony of Guru Ghasidas University (a Central University) was organised today, August 31, 2023, at 11 a.m. in the Rajat Jayanti Sabhagar. The rehearsal for the arrangements during the 45-minute stay of the Honourable President Madam Smt. Draupadi Murmu was conducted, adhering to the specified time frame. During the rehearsal, the convoy, with the Chief Guest and other dignitaries, reached the venue at the scheduled time, and the Honourable Vice-Chancellor, Professor Alok Kumar Chakrawal, welcomed the President and all the guests.
Upon the arrival of the Chief Guest, the Honourable President, Smt. Draupadi Murmu, a group photograph was captured at the venue, beginning with the Executive and Academic Council members, followed by the students. For this, seating arrangements for both groups were outside the Rajat Jayanti Sabhagar of the university.

The rehearsal schedule for the Tenth Convocation procession was meticulously organised, with a structured sequence. Beginning from Hall No. 1, the procession included the Registrar, Academic Council members, members of the Executive Council, Deans, guests, and finally, the Vice-Chancellor/Chancellor, all proceeding towards the stage. During the return journey, the procession returned from the venue to Hall No. 1 in the opposite order.
The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and the offering of flowers at the statues of Ma Saraswati and Baba Guru Ghasidas. On this occasion, the Tarang Band of the University presented Saraswati Vandana. The honourable vice chancellor welcomed all the guests on the stage with bouquets and mementoes. In various roles on this auspicious occasion were Dr. Alka Ekka as Hon’ble President, Smt. Droupadi Murmu; Professor Ratnesh Singh as Hon’ble Governor of Chhattisgarh, Vishwabhushan Harichandan; Professor Bishan Singh Rathore as Chhattisgarh’s Honourable Chief Minister, Bhupesh Baghel; and Dr. Jyoti Verma as Union Minister of State, Renuka Singh.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University is permitted to start the Tenth Convocation ceremony. After that, while presenting the annual report, Professor Chakrawal highlighted the achievements of the university. He said that Central University is expanding nationally and internationally in academics, research, and innovation. The Vice-Chancellor spoke about patents, research papers, the Swabhiman Thali Yojana, the Swavalambi Chhattisgarh Yojana, the Shravan Line Yojana, placements, and other achievements. He expressed pride and joy at the presence of Honourable President Droupadi Murmu as a guest.
In this rehearsal, PhD degree holders, graduates, postgraduates and diploma and degree holders received gold medals. In the ceremony, the university declared that they will award degrees to 2897 students who passed various examinations (undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, etc.) for the session 2021–22. Simultaneously, a total of 84 medals were conferred, comprising 72 University Gold Medals for students clinching the top spot in the merit list, 10 recipients of Donor Medals, 1 awardee of the Guru Ghasidas Medal, and another recipient of the Chancellor Medal. Additionally, 28 research scholars were honoured with Ph.D. degrees.

Live broadcast on an LED screen
A massive LED screen has been positioned at the rear of the stage, broadcasting the entire ceremony live. This includes displaying the recipients’ names, subjects, pictures, and comprehensive details about the medals or titles they receive as they step onto the stage. Assistant Professor Dr. Garima Tiwari conducted the program, and Professor Manish Shrivastava, the University’s Registrar, expressed gratitude in the form of a vote of thanks. On this occasion, the Honourable Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Alok Kumar Chakrawal, the Registrar, Prof. Manish Shrivastava, members of the Executive Council, members of the Academic Council, Deans, Heads of Departments, teachers, officers, and employees were present.
