Gangster Aman Sahu to Contest Elections from Jharkhand : Seeks Permission from Raipur Court to File Nomination, Currently in Judicial Custody Until October 28

Raipur
Gangster Aman Sahu, who faces over 50 criminal cases, is set to contest the assembly elections from Jharkhand, according to his lawyer. Sahu, currently lodged in Raipur Central Jail, appeared in Raipur Court on Saturday, where he was remanded to judicial custody until October 28. His lawyer, Hemant Kumar, informed the court that Sahu intends to contest the elections from the Barkagaon Assembly seat in Jharkhand and needs to travel there to file his nomination. However, the court has not yet granted permission for this.
Sahu’s lawyer stated, “We have presented our case before the judge. Aman wants to contest the election from Barkagaon and needs to be taken to Jharkhand to file the nomination. We are awaiting the court’s decision.”
Aman Sahu was presented in Raipur Court for questioning regarding a shooting incident involving a businessman. The police will question him about the firing case, where he is a key suspect.
According to Sahu’s lawyer, “We brought some documents to be verified. We have very little time to prepare for the election, and we need court permission to move forward. Aman is currently in Chhattisgarh. To file the nomination in Jharkhand, we will need permission from the Jharkhand High Court. Additionally, Sahu is involved in two other cases in Jharkhand, and if we secure a stay in those, he will be able to contest the election from Barkagaon.”

Sahu was presented in Raipur Court on Saturday, following which the court extended his judicial custody until October 28. He will remain in Raipur Central Jail during this period. Earlier, the police had been granted a 5-day remand to question Sahu in a case registered at Ganj Police Station.
A 40-member police team brought Sahu to Raipur from Jharkhand on a production warrant on October 14. Sahu is the main accused in a shooting incident involving businessman Prahlad Rai Agarwal’s car. The shooting, which took place on July 13, also implicated gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. The firing occurred at PRA Construction’s office in Raipur’s Telibandha area, and since then, efforts have been underway to bring Sahu to Raipur.
Raipur police successfully brought Sahu to Raipur after five attempts. Previously, police officials had sought a production warrant four times, but each request had been denied.

Reports indicate that Aman Sahu’s gang is equipped with advanced weapons and has a wide network across several districts in Jharkhand, including Dhanbad, Ranchi, Ramgarh, Chatra, Hazaribagh, Palamu, Latehar, and Bokaro. His gang primarily targets coal mining companies, coal traders, and businessmen in the transportation sector.
On May 9, 2023, Aman Sahu allegedly orchestrated the murder of Sharad Kumar, project coordinator of NTPC’s coal project outsourcing company, Ritwik. Local media reported that Sahu had demanded INR 60 crore in extortion from Kumar, and upon refusal, ordered his murder. Sahu is also accused of firing at the jailer of Giridih Jail.

Members of Sahu’s gang are known for extorting money from coal traders, builders, transporters, and businessmen. Sahu himself has admitted his connection with Lawrence Bishnoi. Besides Jharkhand and Raipur police, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is also probing the activities of the Aman Sahu gang.

According to a CID report submitted to the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) nine months ago, Sahu’s gang consists of 145 members, of whom 99 are not in jail. After Sahu’s incarceration, his gang has been run by Mayank Singh, under Sahu’s guidance. Mayank hails from Deoria, Uttar Pradesh, and the gang possesses over 250 weapons, including five AK-47 rifles, nine carbines, 70 country-made guns, and 166 pistols. These numbers are believed to be even higher.
