Brought by 40 Police Officers from Jharkhand, Accused of Firing on a Businessman
Raipur
A joint team of Raipur and Jharkhand police brought gangster Aman Sahu to Raipur court early in the morning. He was presented in the court of Justice Bhupesh Kumar Basant. The Raipur police had arrested him from Jharkhand under a production warrant a day earlier. A team of 40 police officers escorted him to Raipur early Monday.
Aman Sahu is the prime accused in the firing on businessman Prahlad Rai Agarwal in the Telibandha area. Prahlad Rai has an office under the name of PRA Construction, where Aman Sahu’s associates fired shots on July 13. Besides Aman Sahu, Lawrence Bishnoi’s name also surfaced in this firing incident.
The gangster was presented in Raipur court for questioning regarding the firing on the businessman. Police will interrogate him further in connection with the case.
It took Raipur police five attempts to successfully bring Aman Sahu to Raipur under a production warrant. Earlier, four attempts to get him transferred to Raipur had been denied. Finally, after discussions between officials from both states on Saturday, the transfer was approved, and Aman Sahu was sent to Raipur on Sunday evening.
According to police sources, a 10-member team led by ACCU in-charge reached Jharkhand to escort Aman Sahu. Additionally, a 30-member team from Jharkhand police, armed with advanced weapons, accompanied them to ensure his safe transfer to Raipur. Aman Sahu was then presented in court, and Raipur police will request his remand for further interrogation.
Reports indicate that Aman Sahu was first arrested in 2019 but escaped on September 29 of the same year. The police re-arrested him three years later, in July 2022. He is currently lodged in Giridih Jail in Jharkhand. Sahu’s gang is notorious for its advanced weaponry, which it uses to carry out criminal activities.
Aman Sahu’s gang network extends across several districts in Jharkhand, including Dhanbad, Ranchi, Ramgarh, and Hazaribagh. His targets primarily include coal mining companies, coal traders, and businessmen in the transport sector. His gang is known for demanding extortion, and those who refuse are met with violence, often being shot at by his associates.
Aman Sahu entered the world of crime at just 17. He has over 50 criminal cases registered against him. On May 9, 2023, he was involved in the murder of Sharad Kumar, the project coordinator of an NTPC coal project outsourcing company, Ritwik. Sharad Kumar was killed after a demand for a ₹60 crore extortion payment was not met.
Sahu has been shifted nine times between different jails over the last two and a half years, as Jharkhand police have struggled to contain his operations from behind bars. Despite being in prison, Aman Sahu has been orchestrating his gang’s activities.
According to a CID report submitted to the ATS six months ago, Aman Sahu’s gang has 145 members, 99 of whom are outside of jail. The gang possesses more than 250 weapons, including five AK-47 rifles. After Aman Sahu’s imprisonment, his gang has been managed by his associate, Mayank Singh.
So far, Raipur police have arrested six individuals in connection with the shooting on businessman Prahlad Rai Agarwal. These arrests were made in Jharkhand and Haryana.
Targeting businessman Prahlad Rai Agarwal is the second major incident involving Aman Sahu’s gang in Chhattisgarh. Earlier, through Rajasthan criminal Sunil Meena, the gang had orchestrated a similar attack on the office of businessman Sushil Singhal, who is involved in coal transportation in Jharkhand.
This case continues to develop as police investigate the extent of Aman Sahu’s gang’s activities across multiple states.
