Dr Ambedkar Centre for Excellence Inaugurated at CU.

Dr Ambedkar Center of Excellence was inaugurated in Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya (Central University) on October 01, 2022, with Arun Sao, Member of Parliament of Bilaspur Lok Sabha Constituency, as the Chief Guest. The scheme, funded by the Dr Ambedkar Foundation and the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment of the Government of India, was launched at 10 a.m. in the Department of Biotechnology’s Smart Class Room. Prof. Nilambari Dave, the former Vice-Chancellor of Saurashtra University Rajkot, Gujarat, was present as a Special Guest, and Professor Alok Kumar Chakrawal, the Honorable Vice-Chancellor of the University, presided over the event. Prof. Shailendra Kumar, Registrar of the University, Dr Bharti Ahirwar, Associate Professor, Pharmacy Department, and Co-Advisor, Prof. Mukesh Singh, were also present.
The guests on stage first lit the lamp and honoured Goddess Saraswati, Sant Guru Ghasidas and Dr B.R. with offerings of flowers. Prof. Mukesh Kumar Singh gave the welcome address. The Nodal Officer, Dr Bharti Ahirwar, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacy, shared her views about Dr Ambedkar Center of Excellence and the efforts to establish it.
The Chief Guest of the program, Arun Sao, said that this is a historic occasion. He stated that through this centre, students from underprivileged communities will be able to showcase their talents. While wishing the students luck, he said that all admitted students will get selected for all India-level examinations through this centre.

The Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Alok Kumar Chakrawal, presided over the inaugural programme and expressed his conviction that a hundred students admitted under this Dr Ambedkar Center of Excellence will be selected for UPSC and PSC in the future and will provide active and positive cooperation in nation building. Prof. Chakrawal said that we have to set the highest standards of excellence by taking inspiration from the multi-faceted personality of Dr Ambedkar. He contributed significantly to the creation of the country’s constitution by reaching the pinnacle of his studies during a difficult period in his life.
On this occasion, Prof. Nilambari Dave, former Vice-Chancellor, Saurashtra University, Rajkot, Gujarat, while congratulating all the admitted students, called upon them to bring accolades to the university by creating new records of success under the guidance of expert teachers, and with their perseverance and hard work. The university Registrar, Prof. Shailendra Kumar, also expressed his views.
In this regard, on April 22, 2022, an MoU was signed at Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi to establish Dr Ambedkar Centers of Excellence in 31 Central Universities across the country. The Government of India’s Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment launched this scheme. Seven hundred fifty-six candidates applied for 100 seats. Thirty-three per cent of these seats are for girls.
The Dr Ambedkar Center of Excellence will provide free coaching in universities. The scheduled caste students preparing for administrative service will benefit the most from its opening.
The guests were honoured with shawls, shreephal, and mementoes. Dr Harit Jha, Associate Professor in the Department of Biotechnology, gave the vote of thanks. Deans from various schools, department heads, teaching staff, and students attended the programme.
