The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that a cyclonic circulation developed over the North Andaman Sea around October 20, 2024. This system is expected to evolve into a low-pressure area around October 22 and intensify further by October 24. While the full trajectory and intensity of the system are yet to be determined, it could bring significant rainfall to Odisha starting October 23, with the heaviest downpour expected on October 24.
The IMD has warned of possible landslides in hilly areas and flooding in low-lying and coastal regions of Odisha and West Bengal. Cities like Puri may experience urban flooding, and riverine flooding is a concern for east-flowing rivers. As of now, the cyclone’s precise path and strength remain under close observation by meteorologists.
