Connecting Culture and Nature: Krishna Kunj Blooms in Raigarh

Raigarh: In alignment with the vision of chief minister Bhupesh Baghel, significant efforts are being made to promote greenery within urban areas. In keeping with this spirit plants of religious and cultural significance are being planted in a single location through the establishment of Krishna Kunj in municipal areas. Krishna Kunjs established in Raigarh district are now emerging as a remarkable initiative.

Meanwhile, on the occasion of Janmashtami last year, extensive tree planting and preservation activities were carried out in municipal areas, as per the directives of the Chief Minister. Numerous plants of cultural significance including Krishna Vat, Kalpataru, Paras, Bel, Padam, Banyan, Peepal, Fig, Mango, Coconut, Tamarind, Neem, Peepal, Ramphal, among others, have been planted in the Krishna Kunjs.

Chhattisgarh government has initiated the Krishna Kunj scheme to address the pressing issue of reducing the number of gardens and green spaces in modern cities. Krishna Kunj aims to provide people with spiritual serenity and a peaceful environment. It is a place where useful plants have been meticulously planted. To realize the concept of Krishna Kunj, the planting of medicinal plants and essential and culturally significant plants from Chhattisgarh, particularly from a local festival standpoint, has been carried out with active community participation. Krishna Kunj has been established in Banjipali, Gharghoda, and Pasaur under the Raigarh Forest Division, as well as in Lailunga and Dharamjaigarh under the Dharamjaigarh Forest Division in the Raigarh district.

Raigarh DFO Stylo Mandavi stated that Krishna Kunj has witnessed the planting of culturally significant and medicinal plants. It is evolving into a park with well-laid pathways where individuals can enjoy leisurely walks and acquire information about the planted trees.
