Congress president Mallikarjuna Kharge criticizes PM’s silence on Manipur crisis at ‘Bharose KaSammelan’

Raipur

Sounding poll bugle at Congress party’s Bharose KaSammelan at Janjgir-Champa on Sunday, party national president Mallikarjuna Kharge expressed his concern over the escalating situation in Manipur and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of maintaining a conspicuous silence on the matter.

Kharge, a prominent Dalit face within the party, spoke passionately about the turmoil in Manipur, where thousands of houses have been set ablaze, forcing countless families to flee their homes. He emphasized that the people expected the Prime Minister to address this crisis, but his silence was disappointing and perplexing.

Kharge highlighted the efforts made by his party to address the issue, including visits by Rahul Gandhi and other Congress MPs to the affected areas and their subsequent raising of questions in the Parliament. Despite their efforts, the Prime Minister chose not to respond and instead resorted to mocking the Congress party and the Gandhi family.

Drawing attention to the historical legacy of the Congress party, Kharge questioned whether anyone from the Gandhi family had become Prime Minister or Minister since the era of Indira and Rajiv Gandhi. He lauded Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, a journey from Kanyakumari to Kashmir undertaken to bridge divides, and criticized the BJP for its alleged attempts to undermine such initiatives.

Kharge also expressed his dissatisfaction with the BJP’s governance, suggesting that the central government should focus on poverty alleviation and development instead of engaging in political jibes. He accused the BJP of neglecting the needs of the poor and diverting attention from critical issues.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel accused the BJP of spreading falsehoods. Baghel claimed that the Congress government in the state was providing financial aid to labourers and criticized the BJP for alleged mismanagement of essential resources like rice.

The party leaders stressed the foundation of education, development of the Bhilai Steel Plant, and the implementation of the Food Security Act as significant milestones.

Baghel announced substantial financial aid for various development projects during the conference, emphasizing the party’s commitment to progress and welfare.

Kharge’s presence in Janjgir-Champa district was especially significant due to his appeal to both traditional BSP voters and the broader SC voter base. The conference’s location was chosen strategically to make inroads into reserved SC seats, signaling the party’s intent to strengthen its position at both regional and national levels.

The conference also showcased the active engagement of the Congress party in addressing critical issues and advocating for social justice. The speeches and discussions shed light on the party’s priorities and determination to create positive change in the country.
