Amrit Lal Meena, Secretary, Ministry of Coal, met with Amitabh Jain, Chief Secretary, Government of Chhattisgarh, at Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhawan in Raipur today. The meeting was to discuss different issues related to the ongoing mining projects of SECL and to ensure better coordination with the state government for the better operation of mines. Vismita Tej, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Coal, and SECL CMD Dr Prem Sagar Mishra accompanied him.
During the meeting, discussions were held mainly on issues related to SECL operations, including environmental clearances, forest clearances, land acquisition, expected cooperation from the state government in the expansion of projects, rehabilitation, and resettlement, especially in respect of SECL mega projects such as Gevra and Kusmunda. In the meeting, the Secretary emphasised the time-bound completion of the projects with mutual coordination and cooperation from the state government.
The Gevra Mega Project of SECL recently became the first mine in the country to reach 50 million metric tonnes of coal production. It is currently under expansion to achieve 70 million metric tonnes of production, making it the largest coal-producing mine in Asia. Given this, this meeting was crucial, as development plans involve coordinating with the state government for expedited land acquisition and other aspects like the environment, rehabilitation, and resettlement.
In the meeting with SECL top management, S K Pal, Director of Technical Operations, and S N Kapri, Director of Technical (Project and Planning), along with higher officials from the state government, were also present.

Coal Secretary Amrit Lal Meena reached SECL Headquarters in the next phase of his stay along with CMD SECL Dr Prem Sagar Mishra, where he was received by Director Technical (Operations) SK Pal, Director (Finance) G.K. Srinivasan, Director Technical (Planning/Projects) SN Kapri, and Director (Personnel) Debasish Acharyya, followed by the guard of honour presented to the Coal Secretary by the security contingent of SECL.
The coal secretary held a meeting with the general manager of South East Central Railway, Alok Kumar, in the presence of SECL CMD Dr Prem Sagar Mishra in the SECL Headquarters Administrative Building, CMD Conference Hall. In the meeting, issues related to SECL’s coal dispatch, availability of railway rakes, and rail projects of SECL were discussed, along with Gharghoda, Korichpar, Dharamjaygarh, Chaal, and Baraud sidings, Bilaspur-Urga National Highway, and the Dharamjaygarh-Urga coal project.
Secretary to General Manager, South East Central Railway, Himanshu Jain, Divisional Railway Manager, Praveen Pandey, Principal Chief Commercial Manager, N. Sreekumar, Senior Divisional Operations Manager, Dr PK Tripathi, CFTM, and S. Abdul Rehman were present in the meeting. While the Director of Technical (Operations) from SECL, SK Pal, Director (Finance), G. Srinivasan, Director of Technical (Planning/Projects), SN Kapri, and Director (Personnel), Debasish Acharya, were present.
Distribution of tricycles and wheelchairs to the differently abled from the hands of B. Meena

A tricycle and wheelchair distribution programme was organised under the aegis of Shraddha Mahila Mandal on May 18, 2023, at Vasant Club, located at SECL Headquarters in Vasant Vihar. The chief guest of the programme was B. Meena, who was present during SECL’s stay along with Hon’ble Secretary Coal Amrit Lal Meena. Poonam Mishra, President of Shraddha Mahila Mandal, was present. Shraddha Mahila Mandal is a voluntary registered organisation of co-religionists of officers working in SECL that conducts various types of public welfare activities throughout the year, including orphanages, support for old age homes, sewing-embroidery-weaving training for women, computer courses, the operation of water tanks in the summer season, etc. Women’s committees are also working in 13 areas of SECL under the aegis of Shraddha Mahila Mandal.
On this occasion, tricycles and wheelchairs were distributed to a total of 21 beneficiaries, out of whom tricycles were given to 15 Divyangs and wheelchairs to 6 people. The list of beneficiaries was provided by the Social Welfare Department of the Government of Chhattisgarh.
