Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during his last visit to Chhattisgarh, had said, “We will eradicate Naxalism from the country by March 2026.” Forty-one days later, on September 4, security forces killed 31 Naxalites on the Dantewada-Narayanpur border. Now, a major meeting is set to take place in Delhi on Monday.
Chief Minister Vishnudeo Sai has arrived in Delhi. The Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Telangana, Odisha, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh have also been invited to the meeting. Before departing for Delhi, CM Sai said, “In the last nine months, significant action has been taken against the Naxalites.”
He further mentioned that over 191 Naxalites have been killed so far, indicating a shift. The youth of Bastar are joining the force and driving out the Maoists. CM Sai will present details of the ongoing anti-Naxal operations in the state to Amit Shah.
Amit Shah had visited Chhattisgarh for two days starting August 23, and during a meeting on Naxalism on August 24, he emphasized its eradication.
The Ministry of Home Affairs is preparing a large-scale plan with states to counter the Naxalites. According to sources, similar to how terrorist funding was stopped in Jammu and Kashmir, a major action plan is being developed to halt Naxalite activities.
According to a report from the central government, Naxal violence in the country has decreased by 72% in 2023 compared to 2010, and deaths have reduced by 86%. This year, 202 Naxalites have been killed across the country, and in the first nine months of 2024, 723 Naxalites have surrendered. Additionally, the number of districts affected by left-wing extremism has dropped to 38.
After the recent encounter in the state, a high-profile meeting was called late at night at the CM House. In the meeting, the DGP and the chief of Naxal operations were instructed by the CM to ensure that no leniency is shown in actions against Maoist terrorism in Chhattisgarh.
The CM also emphasized that there should be no shortage of necessary resources for the soldiers in the fight against Naxalism. Officials assured the Chief Minister that the anti-Naxal campaign in Chhattisgarh would continue relentlessly to eradicate Naxalism.
On October 4, the CM visited Bijapur and said, “Today in Bijapur, I met with police personnel and people affected by Maoist terrorism. They all now believe that this violence will soon come to an end.”
Bastar is now swiftly moving towards development and peace. The government’s efforts have given new hope to the people of Bastar, and they are confident that Chhattisgarh will soon be free from Maoist terrorism.
