Raipur: Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Saturday laid the foundation stone for a new integrated medical college building with a capacity of 700 beds at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College in Raipur. The construction of this modern, fully-equipped hospital building, affiliated with the medical college, is set to commence soon and will cost Rs 322 crores. He also inaugurated the Diamond Jubilee celebration of the medical college at the Medical College Auditorium. Exactly 60 years ago, on September 9, 1963, the Government Medical College was established in Raipur.
Addressing the programme, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said that the Raipur Medical College and the associated hospital need to be developed to meet today’s requirements. He congratulated and extended his best wishes to all the professors, staff, students, and former students of the medical college on completing 60 years. He emphasized that in the coming years, everyone needs to work together to enhance the prestige of this medical college and hospital.
The Chief Minister said that in the last five years, there has been a significant improvement in healthcare services in the state. Both the range and quality of healthcare facilities have improved. People have increased their trust in government hospitals. Free healthcare facilities have also reached people in remote areas. People are receiving free treatment, examinations, and medicines through government hospitals. The Chief Minister said that Chhattisgarh’s healthcare machinery is ready to deal with any crisis. During the global pandemic of Corona, our doctors, nurses, and other medical staff have done excellent work and proven themselves. He said that in remote areas like Bastar and Surguja, diseases like malaria and diarrhoea have now become a thing of the past. Our Malaria-Free Chhattisgarh campaign has resulted in a significant reduction in malaria cases.
Deputy Chief Minister TS Singh Deo, addressing the program, said that the 60-year journey of Raipur Medical College has been excellent. There is great hope for the people of the state associated with the hospital. Asia’s most advanced machinery is also available here. Today the foundation stone of the new hospital building has been laid, and its inauguration will take place soon. He informed that approval has been given for the Genomic Sequencing Lab in Raipur Medical College.
