CM Baghel calls for extensive publicity on measures and precautions to prevent conjunctivitis

Raipur: Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Friday chaired a high-level meeting at his residence office to review the preventive measures for conjunctivitis. He emphasized the need for wide publicity of measures and precautions to avoid conjunctivitis, aiming to prevent the spread of this disease. He advised the public to avoid touching their eyes with dirty hands to prevent infection. He also stressed the importance of prioritizing the treatment of conjunctivitis patients in hospitals to reduce waiting time. In case of conjunctivitis in schools, affected children should be sent back home to prevent further transmission. Additionally, he reviewed the availability of check-ups, treatment, and medicines for conjunctivitis patients in hospitals.

Chief Minister recommended spreading the preventive measures for conjunctivitis through social media, print, and electronic media to raise public awareness.

Officials in the meeting informed that necessary facilities for examination and treatment are available till primary health centers level. Adequate quantities of medicines are available, and patients are being provided with free medications.

Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister TS Singh Deo stated that most of the conjunctivitis patients from the past week have recovered, with a higher number of cases in Durg and Raipur. He warned against self-administering steroid medicines bought from medical stores as it may cause harm and recommended seeking medical advice from doctors.

Conjunctivitis: No Need to Fear, But Caution is Essential

The experts in the meeting stated that there is no need to fear conjunctivitis as all hospitals and healthcare centers till primary health centers level are equipped to handle cases with necessary examinations and treatments. Free medicines are being provided to patients. They emphasized refraining from conducting surgeries if the infection is present. Typically, conjunctivitis resolves within 3 days. However, if discomfort persists, blurred vision occurs, or there is no improvement, patients should immediately consult an eye specialist. People should avoid handshakes and refrain from touching their eyes with unclean hands.
