Chhattisgarh Police’s Nijaat campaign gets International recognition
Raipur: America’s international organization, International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) has selected the anti-drug and illicit liquor campaign launched by the Rajnandgaon Police during tenure of the then Superintendent of Police, Rajnandgaon, for the prestigious IACP Award in the Institutional Category- ‘Leadership in Crime Prevention’.
State police is taking strict action against drug peddlers and bootleggers. Nijaat Abhiyan includes strict action against illegal drug dealers, intensive public awareness and rehabilitation of the addicts.
This popular campaign was started last year by the then Korea SP Santosh Singh. Following this, the campaign is being run in many districts including Rajnandgaon and Korba Police. Early this year, the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), an organization of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, included the Nijaat campaign launched by the Korea Police among the thirty best smart-policing campaigns in the country.
Apart from Gadchiroli Police’s then SP Ankit Goyal’s anti-Maoist program ‘Dadalora Khidki’ have been selected for the IACP Awards in the Institutional Category of Community Policing. The organization selects for this award on the basis of assessment of the better work done in policing.
With zero-tolerance action and mass-awareness programs, Nijat Abhiyan has gained fame at the national and international level. It has now started yielding fruitful results in Korba district as well. At present, under the ‘Nijaat’ campaign in Korba district, the police has been successful in effectively stopping the smuggling of narcotics and illicit liquor. Along with the counseling of the addicts in the police stations of the district, counselling rooms are also under construction. Hundreds of public awareness programs have been organized under the campaign. People are getting inspired to leave the addiction and lead a normal life.
People are being made aware by holding meetings, rallies, street plays, wall writings, posters and banners etc. in towns and remote villages of the district for the promotion of the campaign. There are huge participation of people and various sections in this campaign.
