In a major operation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested former Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission (CGPSC) chairman Taman Singh Sonwani in the alleged CGPSC scam. Similarly, the director of Bajrang Power and Ispat has also been taken into custody.
The CBI made two significant arrests on Monday, including Taman Singh Sonwani, former chairman of CGPSC, who is accused of accepting a bribe of Rs 45 lakh during the 2021 PSC examination.
The agency has alleged that the merit list of 171 candidates selected in the examination included sons, daughters, and relatives of senior government officials in Chhattisgarh as well as politicians.
The CBI has initiated a probe into the alleged Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission (PSC) scam. During 2020-2022, family members and relatives of the then-chairman, officials, and politicians were allegedly appointed to key positions like District Collector and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).
The agency has filed an FIR against the then CGPSC chairman, Taman Singh Sonwani, secretary J.K. Dhruv, and others for alleged nepotism. They are accused of manipulating the merit list to secure recruitment for unqualified sons, daughters, relatives, and acquaintances as District Collectors and Deputy SPs.
According to CBI sources, Sonwani’s son Nitesh was allegedly selected as Deputy Collector, his elder brother’s son Sahil as DSP, his sister’s daughter Sunita Joshi as Labour Officer, his son’s wife Nisha Kosle as Deputy Collector, and his brother’s daughter-in-law as Deputy Collector.
Additionally, the then Secretary of the Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission, J.K. Dhruv, allegedly ensured the selection of his son Sumit for the post of Deputy Collector.
