The Chief Minister, Bhupesh Baghel, has said that a beautiful airport and runway are complete in Ambikapur. The proposal to start flights from Surguja to Delhi, Banaras, and Raipur will soon be sent to the Ministry of Aviation, Government of India. The Chief Minister reached Mahamaya Airport in Ambikapur today. Here he saw the runway and praised the officials for the timely completion of quality work. The area of the airport is 374 acres. An 1800-metre airstrip has been constructed here for Rs 48 crore. We have also directed the officials to prepare an action plan for the airport to accommodate larger aircraft. The Chief Minister said that the DGCA team will come for an inspection soon. Soon after that, we will apply for the license. After applying for the license, it is generally issued in 25 days.
The Chief Minister said that the Mahamaya Airport development was in discussion for a long time at the state and the national level. I have always thanked Health Minister T.S. Singhdeo for discussing this. Along with this, we were also in constant touch with the Ministry of Aviation in Delhi. We will suggest to the aviation ministry that flights start from Ambikapur to Delhi, Banaras, and Raipur. With the commencement of flights, there will be possibilities for tourism in this area. People will be able to travel easily to Surguja. The whole area of Surguja is naturally beautiful. With the availability of aviation facilities, tourists from all over the country can now admire the natural beauty of the forests and hills here. They will be able to see the Mainpat and the Ramgarh hills in Surguja and the hot water sources of Tatapani. In this way, Surguja will rapidly establish itself as a centre on the tourism map.
The Chief Minister said that Surguja Airport is one of the oldest airports in the country. After independence, WBM Airport was built here in 1950. Indira ji had come here in 1974. Now that this airport has been developed, private planes will also be able to land here, and the tourism industry in Surguja will develop rapidly with the landing of big planes. Sharing an old experience, the Chief Minister said that earlier, when aircraft used to land here, it used to be like diving. Now smooth landings are happening due to the formation of a magnificent airstrip. On this occasion, the Chief Minister honoured five women involved in airport construction by presenting them with sarees.
On this occasion, Health Minister TS Singhdeo, Food and Culture Minister Amarjit Bhagat, Lundra MLA Dr Pritam Ram, IG Ram Gopal Garg, Collector Kundan Kumar, SP Bhavna Gupta, and CEO District Panchayat were on the airport runway. Local public representatives, including Vishwadeep, were welcomed.
