33 Maoists surrender in Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh

33 Maoists, including prominent figures, surrendered to the police in Bijapur district due to disillusionment with Maoist ideology. The surrender highlighted the effectiveness of government policies and security forces’ collaborative efforts in the region. In a significant development, 33 Maoists, which includes prominent figures like a PLGA Battalion No. 01 party member, Company No. 05 Platoon No. 01 party member, and Janatana Sarkar President, have surrendered to the police in Bijapur district. Among those who surrendered are members of the Gangalur Area Committee’s RPC Pusnar, Dumripalanar’s Janatana Sarkar, and other branch presidents and members. Additionally, active Maoists from the villages of Dugoli, Karka, and Hiroli have also surrendered and laid down their arms.
The surrender occurred due to the disillusionment with Maoist ideology and the impact of Chhattisgarh government’s successful surrender and rehabilitation policy. The ex-insurgents expressed their wish to leave the violent movement and join the mainstream for a peaceful social and family life.
So far in 2024, 109 Maoists have surrendered. 189 Maoists have been arrested for their involvement in various incidents. Additionally, a reward of 5 lakhs has been declared for three Maoists.
The successful surrender was organized with the guidance of the Inspector General of Police in Bastar Range and the Deputy Inspector General of Police in Dantewada Range. The current anti-Maoist campaign in the district has involved collaboration from various security forces including the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Bastar Fighters, Special Task Force (STF), and multiple Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) battalions (202, 210, 85, and 222).
The surrender took place on Saturday in the presence of several key officials. These officials included Deputy Inspector General CRPF Bijapur S.K. Mishra, Superintendent of Police Bijapur Dr. Jitendra Kumar Yadav, Commandant 222nd Battalion CRPF Vinod Moharil, Commandant 85th Battalion CRPF V. Tusing, Commandant COBRA 202 Amit Kumar, Commandant 210 COBRA Ashok Kumar, Additional Superintendent of Police (Ops) Vaibhav Banker, Chandrakant Governa, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Bhairamgarh Taresh Sahu, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Ops) Sudip Sarkar, and Deputy Superintendent of Police DRG Bijapur Vinit Sahu.
The surrender of these Maoists is a significant accomplishment in the continuous fight against insurgency in the region. It demonstrates the effectiveness of the government’s policies and the combined efforts of the security forces.
