Three people, including a 15-year-old girl, were killed when a tractor-trolley overturned in Jashpur, Chhattisgarh, early Sunday morning. Additionally, eight people sustained injuries. All the victims were returning after attending Dussehra celebrations. At the time of the accident, 30 villagers were traveling in the tractor-trolley.
The incident occurred in the Pathalgaon police station area. According to reports, a play was organized in the village of Sureshpur Harramar for the Dussehra festival. Villagers from Pandripani had gone to watch the play on the tractor-trolley and were returning between 3 and 4 AM on Sunday.
The tractor-trolley, carrying the villagers back from the play, overturned, resulting in three fatalities. The driver fled the scene after the accident.
As the tractor approached Mirzapur village, it lost control and overturned by the roadside, trapping the passengers underneath. Local residents arrived to help, initiating a rescue operation. All the injured were transported to the Civil Hospital in Pathalgaon via ambulance.
Doctors declared Ranika Bai (16), Hiraso Bai, and another elderly woman dead upon arrival. The rest of the injured are receiving treatment, with two in critical condition. The driver fled the scene, leaving the tractor behind. Police are continuing the investigation.
Eight passengers were injured in the accident. Among them are Bhagwati Sidar (15), Chandan Kunwar (45), Sunita Korwa (50), Nandu Bai (40), Pushpanjali (15), Siromati (16), Geeta Sidar (21), and Buchhu Ram, all residents of Pandripani village. Two of the critically injured are being referred to Ambikapur Medical College for advanced treatment.
According to Station in-charge Vineet Pandey all passengers in the tractor were residents of the Tamta Pandripani village, specifically from the Darrapara and Upper Para areas. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and the families of the deceased and injured have been notified. Authorities are searching for the tractor driver.
