Chhattisgarh CM alleges BJP’s reliance on ED for electoral gains

Raipur: Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel has once again launched a scathing attack on the BJP, accusing them of relying on the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for electoral campaigns. According to Baghel, since the ED’s efforts did not yield success, the BJP has resorted to revisiting past issues, particularly by making religious conversion a matter of communalism.

Baghel raised a significant question regarding the implementation of the law on religious conversion, which was introduced during Raman Singh’s government in 2006 but has remained unenforced. Considering that the BJP held power from 2006 to 2018, including at the central level, Baghel questioned their inability to implement the law during their tenure.

Chief Minister emphasized that controversies were prevalent during the BJP’s rule and accused them of allowing a surge in religious conversions. Baghel claimed that his administration has taken action on received complaints. He suggested that the highlighting of the religious conversion issue is merely a political strategy as elections are approaching. Baghel asserted that besides this particular issue, the BJP lacks support from various sectors, including farmers, tribals, workers, and the business community.

BJP leaders have recently made several statements regarding the debt of the Chhattisgarh government, which Baghel dismisses as habitual lies. He urged an evaluation of the financial condition of both the Chhattisgarh government and the Union government. Baghel also pointed out the financial system of neighboring states such as Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, emphasizing that Chhattisgarh has refrained from taking loans from April to June, unlike Madhya Pradesh, which has done so multiple times.
